Safeguarding
At Gladstone Primary School, the safety and well-being of our pupils is our main priority. All children have the right to feel safe, secure and protected from harm. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Children must be listened to and their concerns taken seriously.

Acting on concerns or disclosures
Any concerns or disclosures about a child’s welfare are reported immediately to the DSP or DDSP.
When a concern is shared or raised, adults follow protocol:
• Stay calm and listen
• Take what the child says seriously and accept it
• Allow the child to continue at their own pace
• Let them know you will need to tell someone
• Reassure the child that they have done the right thing
• Let the child know what is going to happen next
• Report the conversation to a designated person
We cannot:
• Promise confidentiality
• Ask leading questions
• Confront the alleged abuser
• Ask the child to repeat what has been said
• Interview other children or parents
• Discuss with anyone other than the Designated Safeguarding Person
Reporting Concerns and Disclosures
We have a duty of care to share concerns with parents if appropriate. If necessary, we contact outside agencies such as Children’s Services and the police.
Safeguarding Concerns or Disclosures regarding staff
Safeguarding concerns about a member of staff, including volunteers should be referred to the Headteacher.
Concerns/allegations about the Headteacher, should be referred to the Chair of Governors, Jodie Evans.
