Healthy Schools

Our Healthy Schools Council aims to promote a healthy school in which pupils, staff and parents are empowered to make healthy choices to support their learning and wellbeing.

Gladstone was one of the founder members of the Vale Network of Healthy Schools, joining in 2001.

We achieved the Healthy Schools  National  Quality Award back in 2011 which recognises our commitment to the promotion of a healthy lifestyle and we have renewed the Quality Award four times.

We ask that children bring only fruit from home to eat at breaktimes, other snacks are not allowed. Milk is provided free of charge to all our Infant children. Children are encouraged to drink water throughout the day and all children have access to drinking water in their classrooms. The whole of the school environment is a smoke free zone and this has been extended to ‘Smoke Free Gates’.

Some of our actions this year have included reviewing the Whole School Approach to Food Policy and Whole School Approach to Physical Activity, promoting Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week and encouraging healthy snacks throughout the school.
