Catch Up

A warm welcome back and happy New Year from Miss Watkins and Mr Hicks. We hope you enjoyed your Christmas holidays and look forward to 2018!

We welcome Miss Watkins to year3, she will be teaching G7 for the rest of the year and is very excited to meet everyone.

Children’s PE will take place on Monday and Friday. The children can leave kit in school and take it home every week or fortnight to be washed. Please ensure they have suitable footwear for indoor and outdoor lessons.

Fruit and Milk

Fruit costs £9 and milk £8.40 per Half-Term, please can this be paid to Mrs Crow in the office or on-line. Unfortunately, we no longer accept money being given to the class teacher.

There is no afternoon break for junior pupils and so the day ends at 3:20pm. Children will be led by their class teacher to the entrance on Southey Street where they can be collected. If you are going to be late please let the school know if possible. Also, if there are any particular arrangements for collection that the class teacher needs to know, please call or come and see Mr Hicks or Miss Watkins after school.

Topic Work

This term we will be investigating food via our topic Scrumdiddlyumptious. Our school trip to Asda will be on the morning of the 12th and 13th of February. We will be investigating reversible and irreversible change, air miles, food groups, baking festival food as well as making food art!

Our CLIC maths will involve addition, subtraction and division methodology and learning our 2’s, 3’s and 4’s. In topic maths we will learn to tell the time, negative numbers, estimating, checking our answers and measuring. We will also be preparing the children for All Wales National Tests which take place in May.

We will be using the book Hansel and Gretel by Anthony Browne as our inspiration for fictional writing this term. Our non-fiction focus will be include recounts, adverts and report writing.

We hope this helps you understand what awaits year 3 for the spring. Please call or speak to any of the year 3 staff after school if you have any questions or concerns. Our door is always open.

Reading Books

As always it is imperative that children bring their book bags in each day to ensure they develop their skills by reading at home and in school. They also complete follow up work in class. Please ensure your child brings in their book bag each day.

Kind Regards

Mr S. Hicks and Miss  J. Watkins
