Catch Up

A warm welcome from Mrs Constable-Bigmore and Mr Hicks to all of our new year 3 pupils! We hope you enjoy your new surroundings in the juniors and we look forward to teaching you.

Mrs Constable-Bigmore is the class teacher for G7 while Mr Hicks is leading G8. Our LSA’s are Mrs Thurlbert, Miss Jones and Mrs Fuller.

Children’s PE will take place on Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon. The children can leave kit in school and take it home every week or fortnight to be washed.

Fruit and Milk

Fruit costs £1:50 and milk £1:40, please can this be paid on Thursday to Mrs Crow in the office, on-line or in an envelope  addressed to the class teacher.

There is no afternoon break for junior pupils and so the day ends at 3:20pm. Children will be led by their class teacher to the entrance on Southey Street where they can be collected. If you are going to be late please let the school know if possible. Also, if there are any particular arrangements for collection that the class teacher needs to know, please call or come and see Mr Hicks or Mrs Constable–Bigmore after school.

Topic Work

This term we will be investigating sound and light via our topic Sensoria. Our school trip to Techniquest is on Friday 22nd September. After this we will be exploring the link between force and sound; investigating echoes and shadows; creating our own music using GarageBand; studying the Hindu Festival of Light called Diwali and using our senses to write poetry!

Our CLIC maths will involve addition and subtraction methodology and learning our 2’s, 5’s and 10’s while in topic maths we will learn to tell the time, handle data and understand fractions.

We will be using the book Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White as our inspiration for fictional writing this term. Our non-fiction focus will be report writing. Towards the end of term we will write and perform our own sound poems.

We hope this helps you understand what awaits year 3 for the autumn. Please call or speak to any of the year 3 staff after school if you have any questions or concerns. Our door is always open.
