Welcome

Welcome to Year 5

Class Teachers: Miss Graham and Mrs Downing

LSA: Mrs Gully

Below is a brief overview of what we will be learning over the Autumn term.

The Cornerstones curriculum will continue and through these topics we will be covering the Foundation topics in the afternoons.  Last year we introduced a new spelling game on the computers called Spellodrome; the pupils should have had a log in card come home and if they could play it as much as possible it would be really appreciated. Pupils will also be starting a spelling scheme which they will do daily with the class teacher.

Life in Tudor Times

Energy

Our topic for Autumn 1 is ‘Off with Her Head’, this is a history topic that is based on the Tudors and it will run for 10 weeks.  In Autumn 2 the children will be looking at ‘Energy’ which looks at the sustainable and non-sustainable ways of creating the energy we receive.

Milk and Fruit

Milk and fruit money will be collected on Thursdays so that the correct number can be ordered ready for the following week.  Milk cost £1:40 per week and fruit cost £1:50 for the week. Children are allowed to bring in their own fruit for snack time if you would prefer.  Please ensure it is a price of fruits and not another snack item such as cereal bars.

P.E/Games

It is statutory for the children to participate in P.E lessons and we are hoping to continue outdoor sessions in the autumn term, providing the weather allows.  Children should have in school, shorts, t-shirt, joggers/leggings, a long sleeved jumper and outdoor trainers or daps.

Our P.E sessions are on a Thursday (G12 and G11).

Games is on a Wednesday for G11 and a Friday for G12.

Pupils who forget their kit will have a reminder letter sent home as without appropriate kit they cannot participate fully an important part of the curriculum.  If they don’t bring appropriate kit, they will have to wear school kit.

Homework

Children are encouraged to continue to learn their multiplication tables at home and their ‘Learn Its’ sheet from Big Maths.  Children are to bring in their book bag every day to school in order to take home the book that they have read with their teacher.  We would encourage the children to read at home most evenings.

Parents Evening

A parents evening will be coming up before Christmas - please look out for details.  This will be to discuss how the children have settled into Year 5.

Thank you for your continued support.
